Detox Diary

For the new year I’ve decided to live healthier and promote healthy living in my office. So I’ve started a detox, anti-aging cleanse by Burn & Build Body. It’s a program that promises “You will eat. You will become stronger. You will lose unwanted body fat.”- sounds good, but nothing that good comes easy… here’s my weekly Detox Diary.

Part One:

Week 1- No one’s perfect- especially not me when it comes to sticking to a plan. I planned to give up wheat, dairy, sugar and alcohol; take the herbal and vitamin packets; and bump up the water. I had one cup of espresso daily and upped my water intake to 8-10 glasses with lemon or coconut wter. For five days I went without the wheat, sugar, or dairy. I only had one vodka and a half of a glass of wine and I ate only clean, organic whole foods.

But on Day 6- I was invited to a very small, cool, dinner party cooked by Mario Batali himself. I caved. Wine, pasta, goat cheese, dessert- so good and worth it.

Today, I am back- sluggish. Tired. Water, eggs, detox shake, veggies and chicken. Not sure if I’m tired because it’s gloomy out or because of Mario! Eight more days, yikes-

At least I like veggies- but no grains for five days. Not going to be easy- not sure if I can do it! We’ll see….. -BB

Part Two:

The Detox Cleanse is over!

Now I’m working with Burn & Build Body to get organized- precooking eggs, grilling chicken, having veggies on hand- generally planning out my meals in advance so it’s easier to stick to this healthier diet and keep the weight off I lost.

The second week of the cleanse was both harder and easier. I never gave up complex carbs (week two was supposed to be ZERO grains), but I did keep them to a minimum. I know my body and it takes a few carbs to keep my energy up through long days of back-to-back meetings. I did feel less inflamed and I dropped a few. I was about 80% to the program…

All in all? I would recommend it. I’ve done my share of juice diets and cleanses and this one actually kept me feeling strong, not starved. Some of the girls in the office tried it too- I asked Lisa, our creative resources go-to girl, about her experience with the cleanse.

“I like the way my body felt- I never got bloated or sluggish. I felt like I had more energy. Don’t get me wrong- I had some nasty headaches the first week- but they went away after my body adjusted to the lack of caffeine. I also lost about 7 lbs.. pretty good! Of course, the trapeze class I was taking also helped. The vanilla shakes were pretty tasty… It was way easier on my body than the Master Cleanse I tried last January.” - Lisa

I’m having Rick Dinihanian, co-founder of Burn & Build Body, over to the office in a few weeks to talk to our staff as part of my Year of Healthy Giving. Thanks Rick for introducing me to the cleanse. -BB

Click on these recipes for the cookies and pudding that got me through my sugar cravings:

Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

These cookies rock- BB

Vanilla and Chocolate Protein Puddings

Loooove the pudding. Swirl the vanilla and chocolate together.

You. Inspire. Me. Perhaps I’ll add a little clean eating to my triathlon training regime. Thanks for sharing your struggles (and, really, who could resist Mario?) and for modeling how to get right back with the program. That is perhaps the most important lesson from today’s blog post. Strive for excellence and consistency (not perfection) and when a set back (or Mario) happens, get back on the program the next day!

Love this post. Very interesting. I try to keep healthy, but there are always ways i’d like to improve. I have this dream of being super healthy & fit and bursting with vitality & energy and being able to get everything done and look fresh and glowing. It doesn’t always work out that way but gotta have a goal right. Can’t wait for your nxt detox diary post 2, and see how it went.

I am trying something similar, aiming to make veggies and fruit half of my diet. I was first attracted to your beauty counters by the natural and radiant faces of your make up models. They look confident. I can’t agree more with your motto of “be who you are”. Now that I’ve read your newsletters and these website articles, I come to realise that your make up ideas are part of a way of life, an attitude of an intelligent and strong woman. Good luck with your detox diet and wish you every success in the coming year!

The entire cleansing procedure is very important for it could conserve you a lifetime of sickness. Symptoms of such sicknesses would consist of constipation, flatulence, exhaustion, bloating, diarrhea, cold, flu, acne, eczema, colitis, parasites and allergies. If you are getting a single or more of these signs and symptoms then intestinal tract cleansing is your answer to supply you relief from this kind of discomforts that an unhealthy intestinal tract has brought you.

Well, a HUGE part of weight loss is eitnag healthier, so if you’re not willing to change the way you eat and how you exercise, you’re never going to lose weight. It IS a lifestyle change.Being a student is no different than having other job. I’m a student also, and I’m losing weight quite easily. I would suggest working out every single day and eitnag only lean proteins and veggies. If you need a snack, eat an apple, not a cookie (or a bag of cookies). It’s pretty easy.

    Bobbi,
I just ordered the detox kit because of your post and your success. I am a big fan of your make up and discovered your blog. Your fun, smart and I love your business sense and style. I am a natural redhead and am searching your books and marketing for any real redheads. Will you be including any in the future? I know there are not many of us but it would be great to see how you do her makeup. And what you suggest for skin care, etc. Both my parents are redheads and all my siblings are redheads and my son is a redhead!
Anyhoo, I wish you even MORE success and am enjoying using/reading everything Bobbi Brown! :-)
    Spazmatically Yours, Lesley H. :-))
