I’ve always been a huge believer in education. After all, a defining moment in my life was getting my B.F.A. in theatrical makeup at Boston’s Emerson College. That’s where I pursued my passion and honed my craft.
Teachers make a difference.
My mentors helped me get to where I am today. That’s why I love telling educators about our year-round 20% discount at the Studio in Montclair, New Jersey. Just bring in your school credentials and we’ll show you some love. Tell your teacher friends… It’s the least we can do for all they do!
Discounts aside, by far the most satisfying way to show my support for education is our work with the Broome Street Academy. This tuition-free public charter school in SoHo has partnered with The Door, a 40 year-old organization helping disadvantaged youth, to provide students from foster care and unstable homes with an enriched learning environment. They even have a Cosmetology Club!
As a new institution, Broome Street Academy needs all the support they can get. I was so excited to hear that Nike recently donated basketball jerseys with the team’s “Warriors” name in their school colors—too cool! (Side note: I’m such a big fan of Nike Women—and fitness in general—I gave out gift certificates to my staff for the holidays to start the new year right.)
I hear the students are super excited for their new Nike jerseys, but that’s not all they need. I’ve set up a Pinterest page with ideas for stuff to send the school here. Take a second to check it out—there are links that make it easy to donate everything from books to hula-hoops. It takes a lot to run a school!
