It was August of 2004 when I graduated with a Fine Arts degree and decided that I wanted to become a makeup artist. I found my way to a Bobbi Brown counter in San Francisco and there I began a career with the brand that had a founder I was able to relate to and represent with ease and confidence. It was the perfect job, I would be able to meet new people on a daily basis, use my art skills to enhance women’s beauty and still bring in a steady paycheck! Little did I know that my passion for Bobbi’s philosophy on beauty and my love for makeup would land me in the Big Apple.

What started with working at the world renowned Bloomingdale’s on 59th Street, led to Bobbi’s elite Beauty Team in 2008. To this day I have to pinch myself when I realize how lucky I am to have the rare opportunity to learn from the master herself while at photo shoots, backstage at fashion week and have even had the pleasure of traveling alongside her to foreign countries.
One of the most memorable experiences was the trip to China with Bobbi on her first press tour in Beijing and Shanghai. What a huge honor to receive such an invitation from Bobbi herself. Bobbi is the ultimate rockstar of makeup; it was like being a roadie with the Rolling Stones! To top it off I was also able to explore the land of my Chinese heritage and offer my makeup knowledge, skills and techniques to the artists in the region.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined accompanying Bobbi on her first press tour to China. We walked the Great Wall and left our Pretty Powerful mark commemorating the visit.
Bobbi asked women touring the Great Wall what made them feel ‘Pretty Powerful’. The Australian woman (right) expressed that she has never felt pretty and Bobbi made the promise that she would get a Pretty Powerful Makeup Lesson from a Bobbi Artist when she returned home.

When assisting Bobbi on trips, one of your responsibilities is to apply her makeup for camera. The best way to learn! Bobbi consistently documents what she experiences when she is the subject of in front of the cameras.

What it feels like to be Bobbi.

The artists in Shanghai get their long-awaited photo-op with Bobbi.
Working for Bobbi has not only refined my abilities as an artist, but it has heightened my passion for makeup and for artistry in all forms. Being a contributor on Everything Bobbi is a unique opportunity for me to share with you my journey with Bobbi, the woman and the brand.

Marc is a truly talented artist and a wonderful person! I remember years ago when he was working at the Bobbi Brown counter at the Nordstroms in San Francisco, he would help me with makeup and give me application instructions. I always gave him full rein on the color choices; he was that good. If he felt something wasn’t the right color or was “off”, he always said so and I really appreciated that. I am happy and thrilled Marc is so successful in his career:) He is truly a star!
