When I was asked to help out with Salute the Runway—an event featuring real women who have served in the armed forces—to kick off New York Fashion Week, I couldn’t have said a more enthusiastic “yes.”
The show, which happened Wednesday night at Lincoln Center, brought military servicewomen together to walk the runway in different versions of the Little Black Dress—from Nicole Miller and DKNY to Tahari and Rebecca Taylor—and raise awareness about the difficult transition back to civilian life.
You wouldn’t have been able to tell that any of these women were having trouble jumping back into their non-military lives—they all looked glowing and gorgeous. My team and I worked to give each of the women a natural, super-flattering look that would let them feel super confident, but still really comfortable in their own skin.
Take a look at some of the behind the scenes images from the show. It was such a honor to work with these women, and a great reminder of why I do what I do.
