Oscar de la Renta was already an icon when I got my start in the fashion industry, and it’s impossible for me to imagine that world without him. Oscar really was the last of a generation—both in his approach to fashion and in the elegance, good taste and zest with which he lived his life.
When working on shows for Oscar, I was always struck by how well he seemed to understand women—you could tell that when a woman put on one of his dresses, she felt truly beautiful. He once said, “I want to make clothes that people will wear,” and he did it, flawlessly.
Thank you, Oscar, for making the world a more beautiful place.
