Jackie Robinson goes down in history as an American Baseball legend and Hall of Famer. But perhaps what he’s most famous for is being the first African-American player to break down race barriers in major league baseball and setting a new precedent in sports across previously segregated leagues in the US. Jackie remains one of the greatest players of all time — just check out one of the many books and movies about his life! One of his greatest achievements, however, was his dedication to civil service and the creation of the Jackie Robinson Foundation.

On Monday, March 7, Bobbi Brown received the prestigious ROBIE Humanitarian Award for her dedication to empowering women and girls, at the annual event in New York City. Iconic fashion designer Norma Kamali presented Bobbi with the award.

Bobbi was recognized for promoting the humanitarian ideals embodied by the life of Jackie Robinson — specifically her intrepid advocacy for equal opportunity and her proven dedication to improving the lives of others through The Pretty Powerful Campaign for Women & Girls. For those unfamiliar, this global initiative is dedicated to funding nonprofit organizations that strive to empower women and girls through education.

For over 40 years, the Jackie Robinson Foundation ROBIE Awards Dinner has been a great opportunity to recognize leaders who have improved the lives of those around them while helping to level the playing field in their respective industries. Bobbi was honored to be the recipient at this year’s event for a mission she feels very passionate about.

In addition to the awards ceremony, the Jackie Robinson Foundation has overseen a unique scholarship program that offers four-year grants for high-achieving minority college students. The foundation’s latest mission is a campaign to build the Jackie Robinson Museum in Manhattan.
