Bandier—A Cool Take on Fitness Gear

Here at Bobbi Brown HQ, we love a sweaty workout class—and a flattering pair of exercise leggings. Not too far from our office is the flagship of Bandier, an athletic wear brand founded by Jennifer Bandier, a former music industry executive (she used to manage legendary R&B trio TLC). The store also has an adjacent fitness studio called Studio B, where you can always find the latest workout class, from ModelFit with Vanessa Packer to The Class with Taryn Toomey.

What we love most about Bandier is the limited edition collaborations with some of our favorite fitness stars on social media. For example, consider the blue graphic prints on the collaboration with the Tone It Up trainers, Karena Dawn and Katrina Scott. To kick off the collaboration, Bandier held a meet-and-greet with the Tone It Up trainers. “We expected 300 people to show up—but then we ended up with about 1000 people,” Jennifer tells us.

The store sells its own in-house collections, but it also hosts a variety of fitness brands and designers that you may have heard of: Outdoor Voices, Mackage, Mary Karantzou, Adidas by Stella McCartney, Under Armour, Phat Buddha, and much more. All of the designs, many of which feature daring cutouts, are meant to be seen, making them Instagram favorites.

If you walk into the shop you’ll notice the latest hip-hop blasting throughout the store—not surprising with a music executive founder. “I wasn’t the most academic person, but I’m a huge pop culture fanatic,” Jennifer admits. “I’m very in-tune to what’s going on, so I like to be in the know. I’m always on Instagram! Obsessively.”

Jennifer considers herself a natural entrepreneur, having founded an accessories company for a few years after she left the music industry. “My grandfather would say to me, ‘Jenny, I made all the wrong decisions and it taught me how to make the right ones.’ It’s always resonated with me,” she says. “I don’t have any experience in retail or fashion, but I know I am my best customer.”
