Black pants are a wardrobe essential. All you need is one great pair to go from hangout to work to a night out. One of our coolest new discoveries are the sleek pants from Plyknits, the sustainable knitwear brand by 26-year-old Carolyn Yim. Their slim knit black pants are a hybrid legging/pant that you will want to live in.
The idea for the pants originated when Carolyn moved to NYC from Hong Kong for college. “I was really cold in New York, coming here from from a subtropical city,” Carolyn explains. “So I wanted to find really good warm clothing. I had big down jackets, but I didn’t have anything warm for my legs.” Carolyn’s family came to the rescue, making her a pair of custom merino wool leggings through their textile manufacturing business. Carolyn loved the look, feel, and the warmth, but they didn’t hold up. “They pilled very easily and were very raggedy looking after a couple months,” she recalls.
Carolyn worked to develop merino wool and cashmere-blend pants that felt like leggings and could be worn nonstop without signs of wear. Her bestselling Plypants feature small side slits which flash a hint of color from army green to red. They come in merino wool or a combination of cashmere, silk, mako cotton and spandex. The Pointe Pants are a year-round staple and won’t wrinkle—perfect for the girl-on-the-go.
