Bobbi’s Guide to New Jersey

When I was 22, I wanted to see Bruce Springsteen so badly that I spent the night at the Livingston Mall in New Jersey. I scored nosebleed seats at the Meadowlands, but it was so worth it. I am most definitely a born again Jersey Girl. I even received the honor of being inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame!

I’ve lived in Jersey for almost 25 years. There is so much to love—the Jersey Shore, the laid-back small towns just minutes from Manhattan, the tight communities. I love the contrast of my work life in the city with my family life in Montclair. I thrive on both.

I get interviewed all the time about my favorite spots in the city, but there are so many amazing places in New Jersey that I love. Definitely check out these picks:

28 Church Street

Montclair, NJ 07042

(973) 744-9263

If you’re craving comfort food, go all out at Raymond’s. The French toast is worth every bite. My favorite is definitely the Chicken Paillard.

De Novo

275 Bellevue Avenue

Montclair, NJ 07043

(973) 893-5008

The owner, Demetri Malki, is a New Jersey native and an amazing guy. The European-style pub has something for everyone, from hot wings to grilled octopus. Personally, I always order the branzino with greens.

608 Valley Road

Montclair, NJ 07043

(973) 744-2954

By far the best sushi in NJ. I usually order sashimi and a yellowtail hand roll – no rice!

6 South Fullerton Avenue

Montclair, NJ 07042

(973) 337-6667

It’s hard to beat authentic Mexican food, but Villalobos is definitely comparable. The tortillas are made on-site and by far the most simply, flavorful, delicious, yet light food around.

Egan & Sons

18 Walnut Street

Montclair, NJ 07042

(973) 744-1413

Come for the ales at this Irish pub—stay for the outdoor patio and twinkling lights. They even have gluten-free pizza and a Bobbi dish on the menu.

114 Walnut Street

Montclair, NJ 07042

(973) 744-4450

For cool cocktails, a great raw bar, and amazing oysters, this is the spot.

The Mall at Short Hills

1200 Morris Turnpike

Short Hills, NJ 07078

(973) 376-7350

Every store that you would find in SoHo or Madison Avenue—from Chanel to Sephora—is there.

The Jersey Shore

There is nothing like the Jersey Shore. While the TV show may have given a less than flattering impression, the endless stretch of beach is breathtaking, the people are amazing and it’s a beautiful place to spend the day.
