Pretty Powerful Katie

Bobbi Brown Cosmetics is proud to announce that American actress Katie Holmes has partnered with Bobbi Brown Cosmetics as the brand’s first-ever celebrity face.

“Katie Holmes epitomizes the modern ‘Bobbi woman’… I think of her as the modern day Ali McGraw, who I have always admired,” says Bobbi Brown, “Katie is a classic natural beauty, entrepreneur, and mother. When I met her, I thought she was a natural fit for my brand, and felt an instant connection with her because we have so much in common.”

“Bobbi is exceptional and Bobbi Brown Cosmetics is a company that we, as women, all turn to because it is makeup that is very accessible and makes you feel pretty,” says Holmes, “Sometimes it is just a lipstick or a blush that makes you feel like you can do what you need to do. Makeup is powerful and I am thrilled to be a part of this brand.”

The first iteration of the partnership will appear in spring 2013 print ads, light boxes, on-counter and with supporting editorial features. Additionally, Bobbi will be the lead makeup artist at the Spring/Summer 2013 Holmes & Yang Fashion Show, the eponymous line founded by Katie Holmes and celebrity stylist Jeanne Yang.

“This is a very exciting time for Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, and we are thrilled to be embarking on this new partnership with Katie, whose influence spans the globe,” says Estee Lauder Specialty Brands President Maureen Case, “We are confident that this partnership will raise the brand’s profile with strong, smart, powerful women, while also introducing the brand and its compelling ethos to new consumers.”

Makeup artist Bobbi Brown revolutionized the beauty industry in 1991 with the launch of 10 brown-based lipsticks and a simple philosophy that “makeup is a way for a woman to look and feel like herself, only prettier and more confident.” In 1995, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics was acquired by the Esteé Lauder Companies; however, Bobbi retains an active role in the company as Chief Creative Officer. More than 20 years later, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics is the number one makeup artist brand founded by a woman. It is available in 60 countries and offers a full range of color cosmetics, skincare, fragrance and accessories.

  1. Quite a disappointing announcement.

First, I always liked that you had no celebrity endorser officially. Lots of celebs and athletes (remember the gold-medaling winning athlete on Team GB?) loved your product, and their endorsement felt genuine - not paid for.

Additionally, I always liked that you didn’t always use the same models. That made the make-up and skin care take center stage.

Lastly, Katie Holmes? That makes the celebrity endorsement even more dissatisfying. I don’t regard her as an accomplished actress. Her last real success was Dawson’s Creek, and that was eons ago. Now she’s famous for being divorced from a much more well-known and controversial man. SHE is a quintessential Bobbi Woman?

*sighs* Hope it’s just a one year contract and not renewed.

I agree with the previous comments. Really Katie Holmes? How is being a derivative celebrity pretty powerful? I guess you could consider being a derivate celebrity post-modern.

  2. I must admit, I could not think of any celebrity more appropriate to represent the Bobbi beauty philosophy. Even though, I loved very much the fact that the usual faces were very approachable and somehow normal looking beautiful models!

  3. Delighted to see a fresh young face committed to your product but please please don’t forget about us older ladies who use BB line - we all love that the over 60 gang can look good without being made to look like teenagers. Your EXTRA line is wonderful - a lifesaver actually - please continue to keep us looking good.

I always respected BB for not trying to be another Cover Girl with the celebrity faces - hope the product doesn’t change also.

  4. Bobbi Brown just knows how it’s done. Bobbi Brown is a class act herself and she has risen in the beauty world without alot of “fluff”. The colaboration between Bobbi Brown and Katie Holmes just seems perfect. I’m not one to think it has anything to do with Katie’s “celebrity” status or lack of (whichever way you choose to think), it’s just that she is a perfect Bobbi Brown woman. She’s naturally beautiful and will wear Bobbi Brown products beautifully. Again….. no fluff there…..just natural beauty! Way to go Bobbi Brown.

  5. Sigh. Agree with Kay. How about the other big Kate…Middleton that is. I will miss the days of healthy, glowing, diverse models. Bobbi doesn’t need celebrity power to sell.

  6. Wonderful choose! Ms Holmes is an elegant natural beauty that will represent Bobby Brown well. Congratulations to Bobby Brown and Ms Holmes.

  7. I agree with Kay and Angela. I’m so sick of celebrities everywhere. Katie Holmes is already over exposed since her big divorce. Ugh…

  8. You just lost my business naming Katie Holmes as the new “Bobbi Brown” face. I’m sure she’s a nice person, but looks-wise, I’ve seen better…you should have gone for a fresh-new face and not a celebrity with so much baggage linked to her. In my opinion, she’s really not that pretty - she’s a 7th-grade school girl, not a woman - like Sophia Vergara or Melissa McCarthy, yes, Melissa McCarthy…what a beauty she is, as well as Sophia. No more Bobbi products for me!

That is honestly nonsensical that you would stop purchasing a brand that you enjoy because they are partnering with a “celebrity” spokesperson. She is really the quintessential spokesperson for Bobbi Brown makeup because she is a natural and confident woman. Not only is she a natural and sophisticated woman she is independent, an entrepreneur, a mother and a business woman. I can see changing your brand of makeup for a reason that clashes with your morals or ideals, but really you want to change it because you do not like who they chose to represent them? Katie Holmes did not label herself as an actress, the media and other resources did. Just because someone plays a supporting role in a television or movie does not mean that that is their occupation. I think it is silly to be so dramatic about this she is an accomplished woman and I am happy to continue purchasing Bobbi Brown cosmetics with Katie Holmes as their spokeswoman.

  9. I have to agree with Ellen. I’ve used Bobbi Brown products for years, and have always admired her ability to
empower women by making them put their best face forward, a natural, yet confidence-building look. It was refreshing to see her apply make-up on “normal” women.
We are bombarded with celebrities! The only thing worse would be if she had chosen a Kardashian

  10. Sadly, I agree with Kay. Katie Holmes? I am a devotee of the Bobbi Brown brand, to me it represents the classic beauty. I don’t think you needed to use a celebrity face, the brand was very successful on its own, but since you went there - why Ms.Holmes? I would have suggested Anne Hathaway or Keira Knightley, they are camelians of sort, they can be transformed to appeal to anyone and to represent just about anyone and they have also proven to be accomplished actresses. Ms.Holmes has a very specific look and truthfully, I cannot identify with her so her representation of the brand will NOT influence me to buy more of the brands products.

  11. Bobbi Brown + Katie Holmes? I told my husband this and he said “We’ll that’s pretty much a perfect storm for you!”
He was so right. I love Bobbi Brown and I adore Katie Holmes. Thank you for combining forces. :-)

  12. I love your products and always loved the fact that you don’t use celebrity faces for your make-up line. The diversity of the faces of Bobbi Brown was so refreshing. I loved the range of ages and ethnicity. Please reconsider!

  13. I think that Katie was the perfect fit to be the face of Bobbi Brown. Bobbi Brown’s whole line is about being natural not over done. Katie is just that natural and when she is dressed for the red carpet she always has a ver natural classic look. I stared using Bobbi Brown In 2006 and I fell in love with. I wore it at my wedding. It’s so easy to go from day to night. It last all through the day and into the night. I can’t wear any other kind of makeup. I am a single mother and if I can’t afford to buy some I don’t wear any thing. I wear no make up at all!

  15. I love Bobbi Brown products.. always use them.. however, this is just a ploy to help Katie Holmes “revitalize” her career.

What made Bobbi Brown special is that it didn’t need a spokesperson. The product spoke for itself and every woman of every race and color could use it. Still love the product.. just disappointed that Bobbi went this route.

  16. Just a straight business deal, ladies…A mutually beneficial relationship where Bobbi leads makeup for Katie’s new fashion endeavor and Katie is the “celebrity” face of the brand. Don’t be too terribly shocked when you see more and more mentionings of Katie’s newest venture.

Personally, I am disappointed, as a good solid brand sold out.

  17. I am 67 years old and just started using Bobbi Brown about year ago. I think I started with the cream eye shadow because none of the ones I had looked right. Love it!! The colors were muted enough for my age from there I went on to other things, concealer, smooth lipstick, ulter lipstick, ended up getting them all, etc. After using Bobbie nothing else compares. I made the mistake of getting each of my daughters a cream eyeshadow and now they want nothing else. I love Bobbi becuase no matter the age she seems to know what is right. When undecided I can get in touch with an advisor. Keep up the good work Bobbi and don’t forget us mature women. We love makep too

  18. Bobbi Brown, you have dissapointed me

    I mean, a celebrity?

I used to love your campaigns, those picturing the kind of woman we all could be related to.

You produce exceptional makeup (a little bit expensive, but awesome, i am the biggest fan of your gel eyeliner, and blush), so, please, don’t make this mistake again

Because you don’t need a celebrity, never had, never will …

  19. Katie is the perfect choice for your line very classic beauty. She looks like she could be you daughter if she was 15 years younger. Also. I would like to say I love your maekup. I have been wearing your makeup for over 17 years now, only makeup I wear. I always received plenty of compliments on my make thanks to you. I also love your new mineral powder that you release last summer, the only problem is that it does not last nearly as long as the orignial powder. But it is still great. Thanks Bobbie for making make up that women of color like my self can wear and still look like we are not wearing makup.

  20. Disappointed. Love BB. Not so much the celebrity endorsement. I think the 50, 60 + woman is so much more interesting. I am surrounded by role models; at work, in my community… I’m so sick of the over-exposed Hollywood crowd… “ooh, look at me, I’m so special”, when what they are is rich and spoiled. Will continue to buy BB but I too hope the KH contract is a short one.

  21. I have used Bobbi Brown since she first hit the scene. I purchase her products because they are top notch. I also buy them because of Bobbi herself. I don’t like seeing people being mean about who wears or supports her products. Just remember that you buy the products because they are great. I doubt people support the line just because of who wears the makeup but, how great it looks on themselves.

  22. Katie Holmes? Really?

I’m sure she’s …nice. But she seems incapable of smiling, frankly. I don’t see why BB needs a celebrity endorsement at all; let alone with Katie Holmes.

How about someone relatable? Someone in their 30s/40s, who seems HAPPY. Who’s done something with their life.

  23. My name happens to be Katie and I am the same age as Katie Holmes. Katie did not need to marry or divorce anyone famous to get where she is. If your going to discredit her for being the face of Bobbi Brown then that is your problem. Would you have been happier if Bobbi had gone with Paris Hilton or Lindsey Lohan? Katie just had her first runway show at the Mercedes Fall Fashion Week. Katie & her stylist started their own line. Katie, her whole life has had a very classy look about her the way she dresses and her makeup is always almost perfect. Which is why it was perfect for Bobbi to chose to work with Katie. Bobbi Brown’s line is about simplicity, class, & beauty. Wear her products once and you will never want anything different. Her makeup makes you feel beautiful but not weighed down, it looks classy, and the color pallets our always changing while still sticking to simplicity and class. Katie I wish you all the happiness in your line and Bobbi I think you made an excellent choice in choosing Katie. I love your line!

  24. The fact that Bobbi Brown did not use celebrities to sell the product is what attracted me most to the line. For 10 years I have used this makeup and I have enjoyed that the makeup philosophy is based on real women looking they best they can.

First will be Katie and then will come others. Gone will be models that were always fresh and unique but not “traditional.”

p.s. Katie Holmes? what has she done since Dawson’s creek besides get married to a Tom Cruise? IF you really had to sell out and get a “celebrity” why not go for Kate Middleton? ugh!

  25. I think that Katie Holmes as the face for Bobbi Brown is an excellent choice. A naturally beautiful, smart, talented and sophisticated woman, mother, entrepreneur, and strong individual, I think Katie is the embodiment of the modern woman. I think she’s a perfect fit for Bobbi Brown cosmetics. It was always refreshing that Bobbi didn’t use celebrity faces for her line but change can be an extraordinarily positive thing. I commend Bobbi on her choice of Katie Holmes and I wish this endeavor great success. Bravo, Bobbi!

PS…the Katie photos are stunning. Love the color choices and am really inspired!

    Cheers
