Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon took a night off from her hilarious, dead-on impersonations of Hillary Clinton and Justin Bieber to cohost Saturday night’s Film Independent Spirit Awards. Bobbi Brown editorial makeup artist Cassandra Garcia was on-hand to help the comedic actress prep for the occasion. With several wardrobe changes ahead, Cass said they picked a soft smoky eye that was pretty and balanced, so it would look great with every outfit. Flawless skin is crucial with a long night ahead, so she prepped McKinnon’s eye area with Tinted Eye Brightener and layered Concealer on top. Next, Cass created an even canvas with the Skin Foundation Stick, setting it with Retouching Powder. “The focus was a soft, black-based navy smoky eye, and we diffused it with a soft grey shadow so it all blended perfectly.” She started by applying Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Cement and diffused it with Eye Shadow in Rich Navy. Next she defined McKinnon’s eyes with Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink and topped it off with No Smudge Mascara. “A soft pink flush on the cheeks and lips balanced the look perfectly and gave a soft glow.” Cass started with a combination of Retouching Powder in Pink and Highlighting Powder in Pink Glow on McKinnon’s cheeks. For a natural rosy flush, she added a touch of Blush in Pale Pink and Nude Pink. Lastly, she applied Art Stick in Dusty Pink for creamy, matte lips that could take McKinnon from the red carpet to the stage to the after party.
